ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Rochester Mayor Malik Evans announced the launch of a new community engagement program Monday called Neighbors in Action.

Officials say the program will encourage community members to work together to help strengthen, improve, and develop their neighborhoods by allowing them to apply for city resources and small grants to support community-driven projects.

It’s all based on a past program —Neighbors Building Neighbors— which inspired and supported hundreds of projects across the city.

“In a post pandemic world where we have been isolated and disconnected for so long – it was important for us to begin the process of investing back in neighborhoods again,” City Councilmember Miguel Meléndez said. “And when I say that, I mean the people in neighborhoods that can make a difference. I always tell people, give a resident $500 and they come up with a plan, they will work wonders in their own neighborhood.”

The City of Rochester is asking for public input. Click here to take the survey, or attend one of the following community input meetings:

    • 5:30–7:00 p.m., Thurs., Oct. 10,Thomas P. Ryan R-Center, 530 Webster Ave.
