ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A 16-year-old boy was indicted Tuesday on multiple charges in connection with a mass shooting at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park in June.

According to investigators, a group was arguing in the park around 2:45 a.m. on June 23 when at least one person pulled out a handgun and began firing. Six people were shot. Police said their injuries were not life-threatening.

Investigators identified a 16-year-old boy as someone who fired a handgun at the park that night. Police found him on Remington Street in Rochester on July 21. They said he had a loaded handgun on him at the time. He was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon.

Investigators said they were able to determine that the gun in the boy’s possession was used in the MLK Park shooting. That 16-year-old was in court Tuesday, where he was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment.

The boy was returned to the Monroe County Children’s Center.

Police ask anyone with additional information about the shooting to call 911.
