ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – For the third consecutive year, the Town of Tyre property owners will not have to pay a general town tax or highway tax.

This is a result of $2.4-million in NYS Gaming Tax Revenue the town anticipates receiving from the New York State Gaming Commission as the host town for del Lago Resort & Casino.

The budget for 2025 in Tyre also now includes a no tax levy for the fire protection district fund.

Similar to past budgets, the 2025 budget maintains a $325,000 allocation for a 2026 county tax levy reduction. This is $25,000 more than what was held in 2023, and 2024.

Tyre Town Supervisor Elizabeth Partee says the town even had enough money to squirrel away for a future highway facility and a rainy day fund.

“They’ve been a really good community supporter both in the town and at the county level so I think there’s been positive aspects. I think there was a lot of concerns before they ever opened but I think they’ve been a positive impact to the county, especially to the town,” Partee said.

All funding is provided by del Lago Resort & Casino in accordance with the Community Mitigation Plan established between the town and the casino.

de Lago sent News 8 this statement for this story:

“del Lago is proud to drive direct community impact, from family-sustaining jobs to significant tax revenues that deliver relief for residents and enable public investment. We’re thankful that we are able to help support our neighbors in the Tyre community and across the region.”
