ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – An East Rochester Police officer was hit by a car as the driver fled during a traffic stop near East Linden Avenue Thursday night.

East Rochester Police said an officer pulled over a vehicle for speeding just after 11 p.m. on North Washington Street.

The officer told the driver she was going to be arrested for aggravated unlicensed operation (driving while a license is suspended or revoked).

Police said the driver stated that she “will not be arrested”. The officer reached into to attempt to remove her from the car when she allegedly closed the window on his arm, striking him with the car as she pulled away.

East Rochester Police and Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputies were waved down by a witness in the area of East Linden Avenue and Whitney Road, who saw the car run a red light, leave the road and go down an embankment.

The driver ran off and was presumed to have gone to her residence. Police were unable to make contact or get her to come to the door.

Police said charges are being filed and an arrest is pending.

The officer had swelling and bruising to his left arm, but otherwise, was not seriously injured.
