ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Rochester Museum and Science Center celebrated Indigenous Peoples’ Day Monday, with activities featuring Indigenous-created content and activities.

The event featured a self-guided story corner featuring Indigenous authors, a land acknowledgement display, a sensory room and more. Visiting children and families could learn about the rich history of the Hodinöšyö:nih people.

The Roundhouse Shelter at Genesee Valley Park hosted Indigenous Peoples’ Day events all day as well.

The festivities kicked off with a sunrise ceremony at 7:00 a.m. that included a Thanksgiving address and a telling of the creation story. Art and craft demonstrations, live music, and storytelling followed.
