UPrep’s Tavion Byrd is our Player of the Week

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A big-time performance with a big-time play in a big-time game made Tavion Byrd our Player of the Week.

The UPrep senior quarterback threw for 253 yards, five touchdowns, and no interceptions in a dramatic 44-36 win over McQuaid.

Four of his touchdowns came in the first half. The final one came at the perfect time.

Tied at 36 with just a few seconds left, Byrd heaved up a Hail Mary from midfield. His receiver Gavin White came down with it in the end zone and the Griffins took the short drive home with a win.

The game was a rematch of last year’s sectional title game and the victory snapped an 18-game Section V winning streak for McQuaid.

His performance makes him more than worthy of being our Player of the Week.
