ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Beautiful, fall foliage has been popping throughout much of our region. With the gorgeous weekend ahead, many meteorologists, like ourselves are urging folks to head south of Rochester to view the best of the best.

The Finger Lakes region is experiencing close to, if not, peak conditions at this time. I Love NY released their fall foliage update today and it shows how much of our viewing area is nearing its peak. When looking at the newly updated map, however, it shows the general consensus of what the specific is currently experiencing, meaning, it doesn’t encounter the areas that could be lacking in color or experiencing the most magnificent colors.

As you head south of Rochester, there are still going to be areas with patchy colors. Take the picture below as an example.

Notice how there are some reds and oranges are popping out. However, there are still some greens within the trees. This is what we mean by “patchy.” Yes, there may still be some colors, but it does not look like the magnificent colors that some photos show.

The best piece of advice we can give you is to continue to move around. If you decide to take a drive down towards the Finger Lakes this weekend, don’t just stay in one spot. One area could show patchy colors, but just right down the road could be a beautiful display of colors. Happy hunting!
