ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A true act of heroism from a 15-year-old who saved his dad’s life. Today the duo says they hope to inspire others to get CPR certified.

Jon Crabbe went into cardiac arrest while golfing with his son, Jack Crabbe, and his friend Labor Day Weekend.

Jon said he had no memory of what happened, just remembers waking up in the hospital.

Jack said he didn’t know what it was at first, “I just ran to the cart and grabbed my phone. I called 911 and instantly told them what was going on.”

He mentioned his father’s face was slowly turning purple, that’s when they told him he needed to start CPR.

“I jumped right into and started going for 3-4 minutes until the emergency services got there,” Jack says.

Jon says he didn’t even know his son knew CPR, but was glad he did because it ultimately saved his life.

Jack told me he learned CPR in his swim class at Victor High School, and is glad his teacher, Mr. Smith, taught him and his classmates this valuable skill.

Jon today says he is recovering and is glad he is here today because of his son.

News 8 also spoke to his cardiologist, who says everybody should know CPR because you can save a friend, a neighbor, a family member. He adds that it increases the chance of survival from sudden death from less than 10% up to 30%.

If you are interested in learning CPR, there is a mobile hands only CPR training station located at His Branches community health center on Arnett Boulevard.

It will be at this location until November 29th.
