Florance celebrated for 3rd state championship

HARPURSVILLE, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – On Wednesday, one of the most winning wrestlers in Section 4 was honored for his 3rd state championship.

At Harpursville High School, Darren Florance was celebrated for winning his 3rd individual state championship.

Broome County Executive, Jason Garnar, proclaimed today as Darren Florance day, and State assemblyman, Joe Angelino, sent a proclamation for Darren as well.

This year, Florance won the state title in division 2, 116, defeating Brock Frederick from South Jefferson in a 3-1 decision.

Joined by classmates and family members to celebrate, Florance spoke after the events about his confidence throughout the state tournament.

“A lot of confidence goes into it,” Florance said. “I was not worried at all going into the tournament, because I was confident enough to go back-to-back, back-to-back again. So, I just felt confident and ready.”

Confidence well deserved from Florance with 3 state championship winning seasons in a row.
