APALACHIN, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A restaurant known for its homemade soups and specialty sandwiches is the Tioga County Spotlight on Business recipient for the month of August.

Chat-A-Wyle is a small, family-owned restaurant in Apalachin. It is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and offers a wide range of home cooked comfort foods for people of all dietary needs.

Adorned with 1950’s style decor, co-owner Matthew Poch says he wants customers to feel like they’re at their grandma’s house when they come in.

Poch and his partner Christina Burlingame took over ownership of the business nine years ago.

Poch says the restaurant feels like home not only to him, but the customers they serve.

“I think there’s a lot of different things that go into it. I think a lot of the hard work that everybody here puts in to make everything come together day to day and the food, when you do it right and you do it from scratch, you can’t fake that,” said Poch.

Chat-A-Wyle aims to give back to the community it serves. It is home to many fundraisers and sponsorships with local youth programs as well as partnerships with local businesses.

Additionally, the restaurant recently received The Arc New York Employer of the Year Award for its work creating job opportunities for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
