VESTAL, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – The beginning of the fall semester is just a week away and Binghamton University is preparing to welcome thousands of new and returning students to campus.

18,600 new and returning students are set to begin classes on August 20, with move-in days scheduled for August 16 through August 18. This number includes over 3,000 first-year students, 800 transfer students and 1,500 new graduate students

Binghamton received a record-breaking 61,800 applications for the upcoming academic year with more than 53,000 first year, nearly 4,000 transfer, and over 4,700 graduate student applications. This surpasses last year’s record of 58,000 applications.

“I am thrilled to welcome the Class of 2028 to Binghamton,” said President Harvey Stenger. “The number of applications the University received is a testament to the quality of education students know they’ll receive here—and I’m amazed by the caliber of our incoming class. These students are bright, driven and committed to making a positive difference in the world, and I can’t wait to welcome them to campus.”

About 5% of new students are from Broome and Tioga Counties. Binghamton will also be welcoming about 120 transfer students from SUNY Brome Community College, the largest number from any single community college.
