BATH, N.Y. ( WETM ) – A man is now dead after an incident that occurred on Tuesday morning at a machine shop in Bath.

According to the Village of Bath Police Department, police were called to Clark’s Specialty, a machine shop located at 36 Delaware Ave, for an urgent welfare check after receiving the report of an unknown man who had been crushed by a wall on Tuesday, Aug. 13, around 9:51 a.m.

Upon arrival at the scene, police determined that the man, later identified as Gerald C. Cleveland of Bath, was deceased.

Police say that during the investigation, it was determined that another person was cleaning scrap metal at Clark’s from a fire that had happened a few months prior. Further, police say that it is believed that a piece of heavy equipment accidentally hit a cement wall, which caused it to become unstable and then fall on Cleveland, which caused his fatal injuries.

Following the investigation into the incident, Bath PD contacted OSHA out of Syracuse, who is continuing the investigation. The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, Bath Ambulance and Bath Fire assisted Bath PD at the scene of the incident.
