VESTAL, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Over the next three days, 7,000 students will move their stuff into their dorms, as classes get started next week.

Friday was the first move-in day at BU, welcoming around 1,900 students today and another 2,500 are scheduled to come tomorrow. There’s over 150 volunteers around campus, helping new students unload their belongings intro carts, that are brought to their new dorm rooms.

The students are given a designated time slot to arrive, to avoid congestion around campus.

BU’s president, Harvey Stenger’s advice to new students, is don’t be a stranger. He says one in three people that you see on campus are brand new.

“I think so many people feel like, when they here, they’re the only one’s who’s new and everybody else has been here for a while, but that’s not true. New freshman, new transfer students, new graduate students, new faculty members, new staff members. A lot of newness on campus and I think that’s the exciting part,” said Stenger.

The university says that roughly 32% of new students are from Upstate New York, 22% are from Long Island, and 27% are coming from New York City.

Binghamton’s classes officially begin on Tuesday.
