Grumblepugs night coming to Mirabito Stadium, all dogs welcome to attend

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies are hosting a very special birthday party tomorrow as they transform into the Grumble Pugs.

If you’ve been to Mirabito Stadium, you may have seen baseball’s cutest fan walking around the stands. Marvin is President David Sabotka’s four-year-old pug who attends every game as well as day to day operations. He inspired the Grumble Pugs theme night which will be held on his fourth birthday.

A grumble is a group of three or more pugs. It is called that because of the sound they make when they’re together which resembles a grumble.

Saturday’s game is also a Bark in the Park, meaning all dogs are welcome into the stadium. There will be a dog parade before the game as well as a birthday party for Marvin featuring pup cups. Sabotka says the team is trying to break the unofficial record for most pugs at a professional sporting event.

He says he’s hoping the theme encourages people to come to the game, bring their dogs, and have a great time.

“This is what it’s all about, frankly. We think this is the first time that there’s been a theme night that is devoted to a real-life animal as opposed to a mascot or a fictional one and this is a way to bring people to the ballpark that maybe don’t normally come and make it more accessible,” said Sabotka.

Marvin was recently featured on Sunday Night Baseball. Binghamton University alum Karl Ravech, who is a huge fan of pugs, gave a shout out to Marvin while wearing a Grumble Pugs hat on the air.

Sabotka says since then, orders for Grumble Pugs merchandise have skyrocketed.
