New academic year begins at Binghamton University

VESTAL, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – School is officially back in session, as classes got started today for the 7,000 students living on campus at Binghamton University.

The campus was crawling with activity, as students moved onto campus this weekend.

To celebrate welcome week, BU has a variety of events for students to get involved on campus, and to be a part of the community. Today, there was a job fair for students to find work opportunities both on and off campus.

One student, sophomore Marc Stolyer is studying biochemistry and says the first week of class is generally slow, since a majority of professors walk through the syllabus and give an overview of the course.

But he says compared to his freshman year, the move-in process was easier, and he’s excited to be back on campus with his friends.

“I know already from the get-go, it’s my first day and I’m already seven pages of notes in. Obviously, there’s moments where you’ll just remember staying up late studying or going out, it’s all about the balance. Definitely live your life to the fullest, it is college, whether now or never, but also, it’s all about the balance you have to find ultimately,” said Stoyler.

Throughout the week, there are several open houses for various facilities around campus, and plenty of open recreation opportunities for students to meet new people and stay active.
