GEDDES, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — As part of Law Enforcement Day at the New York State Fair, a ceremony honoring the fallen Law Enforcement heroes was held.

The ceremony took place at the Veterans Memorial in front of the Horticulture Building.

Among the officers honored were Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jensen and Lieutenant Michael Hoosock from the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office who were killed in the line of duty in April 2024.

“That shooting from April 14th is just a wound that’s not going to heal. Not now, not ever,” said Sheriff Toby Shelley, Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office.

It was an emotional day for local law enforcement leaders as they remember their own.

“The public should really be grateful that men like Hoosock and Michael Jensen continue to raise their hands and take the oath to protect and serve because if they stop doing that there will be complete chaos and crime,” said Chief Joe Cecile, Syracuse Police Department.

Lt. Hoosock and officer Jensen are now amongst the hundreds of names at the veterans memorial, a permanent reminder of their service and sacrifice.
