Delaware County drug dealer sentenced to 3 years in prison

DELHI, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A man will spend the next three years in prison for possessing and selling drugs in Delaware County.

On Tuesday, District Attorney Shawn Smith announced that Sean Gillespie, 25, of Bovina appeared in court and was sentenced to three years in New York State prison followed by one year of post release supervision.

Gillespie was convicted of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree- Possession with Intent to Sell, a Class D Felony. He previously pled guilty to the charge, admitting that he possessed fentanyl with the intention of selling it in the Village of Delhi on March 13. He admitted to the crime as part of a plea deal.

Gillespie also forfeited the money that he possessed at the time he was arrested, as it was determined to be proceeds from criminal activity.

“As a result of the Deputies fast response, a quantity of dangerous fentanyl was seized before it could be distributed into our community,” said Smith.

Gillespie was remanded to the Delaware County Jail pending final sentencing.
