Deposit man accused of murdering a 3-year-old child

DELHI, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A Deposit man was indicted last week on charges relating to the murder of a 3-year-old child in the Town of Deposit.

District Attorney Shawn Smith announced that James Christ, 27, appeared before a grand jury and was charged with two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child; Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree, a Class D Felony; and Murder in the Second Degree, a Class A-1 Felony.

It is alleged that beginning on or around March 6 and continuing until on or around May 10, Christ knowingly acted in a manner that was likely to injure two separate 3-year-old children in way that affected their moral welfare as well as their mental and physical health.

It is also alleged that beginning on or around April 9 and continuing until on or around May 10, Christ did recklessly engage in conduct, under circumstances evincing a depraved indifference to human life, which created a grave risk of death to a 3-year-old child.

Finally, the indictment accuses Christ of intentionally killed a 3-year-old child on May 9.

It was reported that Christ is the father of the 3-year-old child. The child’s mother, Marielys Ramon, was also charged.

Christ was arraigned in Delaware County Court on August 27. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Honorable John Hubbard remanded Christ to the Delaware County Jail without bail pending trial.
