BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – The organizers of LUMA are approaching panic mode as the deadline nears to reach their crowd funding goal.

Scaffolds for the projectors are already going up in downtown Binghamton for the free projection arts festival taking place on Friday and Saturday September 6 and 7.

A key part of the funding for the event is its annual Kickstarter campaign which this year has a goal of $40,000. However, the effort is still $10,000 short with a Monday deadline fast approaching.

Co-Founder Joshua Bernard says even though he sounds the alarm every year, the risk is real, and the challenge is daunting.

“Crossing $10,000, this Kickstarter has been going on for 25 days, we’ve got like 4 days left. You think you can’t raise that last $10,000, 25% of the money in just a couple of days. So, I go on television and say, ‘We’re not going to make it.’ And then we do because people hear that and they think I’m crying wolf, but the reality is right now, we’re not going to make it unless you go online. So, please help us out right now. We’re not going to make it, but we will if you do it,” said Bernard.

According to Kickstarter rules, if the goal isn’t met, LUMA won’t get any of the pledged money.
