ENDICOTT, NY (WIVT/WBGH) – A soon-to-be Eagle Scout from Hillcrest is spearheading a county project to honor his mother and others who have lost their lives to violent crime.

Schyler Savage is a member of Troop 199 in Hillcrest, and a senior at Chenango Valley High School.

He’s teaming up with Broome County and the Crime Victims Assistance Center to create a Crime Victims Memorial Wall in Roundtop Park in Endicott.

Savage came up with the idea for his Eagle Scout Service Project.

He lost his mother last year to violent crime, and wanted her legacy memorialized forever with the project.

“The creation of a memorial site for the victims of crime. For family, friends and visitors to witness and admire. This is far more than an Eagle Scout project. This will become a solemn place for remembrance and reflection, in honor of the many people, including my mom, who lost their lives as a victim of crime,” says Savage.

The memorial will feature a retaining wall and patio, with a heart shaped garden, lined with the names of local victims of crime.

In October, Savage is partnering with the Binghamton Black Bears to auction off specialty jerseys, and the funds raised will support the project.

You can contact the Crime Victims Assistance Center to donate, and to add a name to the wall.

The project is expected to be complete in April.
