TOWN OF TRIANGLE, NY (WIVT/WBGH) — A Whitney Point man is facing several felony charges for driving over and on top of a car with two people still inside in the Town of Triangle, the Broome County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday.

According to BCSO, in the early hours of Tuesday, September 3, around 1:30 a.m., officers rushed to a reported two-car crash in the area of Prospect Street in the Town of Triangle. Police found a 1998 GMC pickup truck directly over top of a Mitsubishi Eclipse, with the driver of the truck, 35-year-old Travis Ross, of Whitney Point, still inside.

An investigation into the situation led police to the conclusion that Ross had driven his truck onto the Mitsubishi when two people were inside of it. Once the truck came to rest directly over the top, the passengers escaped and fled the area. One of them hid at a nearby Byrne Dairy and called emergency services.

Police say Ross told them that he was “sick of repeated crime in the area” as well as unknown vehicles parking on “his road,” which led him to committing the act. Police also mentioned Ross’ intention was to ram directly into the car, not end up on top of it.

Following the investigation, Travis A. Ross was charged with two (2) counts of Reckless
Endangerment in the 1st Degree, and two (2) counts of Assault in the 2nd Degree (With Invent to Cause Physical Injury With a Weapon), all Class D Felonies, along with several traffic violations.

Ross was transported for Central Arraignment Part for arraignment and subsequently released to
appear at a later date in the Town of Triangle Court.

No injuries were reported as a result of the accident.
