Cancer survivor to play with the National Amputee Soccer Team

BINGHAMTON, NY (WIVT/WBGH) – A local cancer survivor was invited to play soccer in Boston, with the United States’ National Amputee Soccer Team.

Damon Goga, was a student at Chenango Valley when he was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma in his left tibia in 2017, and needed his leg amputated.

Goga has never let his prosthetic hold him back, playing goalie for the school’s soccer team and a first baseman on the baseball team.

Last July, he was invited to the Adaptive Sports Field Day at Dicks House of Sport, where he got to watch the USA National Amputee Soccer Team in action.

After the field day, Nico Calabria, the captain of the national amputee team, invited Goga to the AMP Cup in Boston on October 12th and 13th.

There’s a good chance Damon will get to play with the New England team.

The event is organized by the American Amputee Soccer Association.

We’ll hear more from Damon as we get closer to the event.

A GoFundMe page was created, with the goal of raising $5,000 to help pay for the Goga’s travel expenses like gas, housing, and food.

The fundraiser was created three days ago and has already raised nearly $3,000.
