Free event Saturday to celebrate national Recovery Month

BINGHAMTON, NY (WIVT/WBGH) – September is National Recovery month, and local officials came together to highlight the ever-growing need for addiction services.

VOICES Recovery Center in Binghamton opened in 2017, and is a safe housing option, targeting those needing support while recovering from substance use disorder.

VOICES has multiple residential homes, for men and women, and services for families who have been impacted by addiction.

A former VOICES resident, Ryan Simpson, says he wouldn’t be where he is now if it wasn’t for the Recovery Center.

He says the program provides people with housing, food, clothing, counseling, and help with job searching.

“They gave me a purpose. When I got here, I was thirty-two years old, I didn’t know who I was, I didn’t know what I wanted to be. And if I could be any of that. And they gave me the tools to go back out into the world and to really reshape my life. Like I said, their door is always open, and if you need anything at all, these people welcome you with open arms,” says Simpson.

VOICES announced a free community event this Saturday, featuring therapy providers, free Lupo’s, Narcan training, raffles, face painting, and a dunk tank.

The event will take place from 11 to 3 p.m. at the recovery center, located at 340 Prospect Street.
