Binghamton man accused of robbing a convenience store at knifepoint

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A Binghamton man is facing charges after allegedly robbing a convenience store with a knife.

On Sunday, at approximately 1:15 a.m., officers from the Binghamton Police Department responded to the Runway Food Mart located at 77 Main Street in Binghamton for a report of a man with a knife.

Officers determined that a suspect, later identified as 46-year-old Nigel Cooper, entered the store and attempted to purchase items with a credit card. The credit card was declined, and Cooper allegedly attempted to leave the store with the items. When the clerk attempted to stop him from leaving, Cooper allegedly displayed a knife and left the store with the stolen goods.

Responding officers eventually located Cooper in the area of 90 Walnut Street and said he was found to be in possession of a knife and the stolen items.

Cooper was charged with Robbery in the First Degree.

He was arraigned in Binghamton City Court and remanded to the Broome County Jail.
