ALBANY, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — Governor Kathy Hochul announced on Tuesday that federal funding is now available for victims of the severe weather on Wednesday, July 10.

The governor announced on Tuesday, September 10 that home and small business owners in 12 New York counties, including Herkimer and Oneida Counties, can now apply for low-interest loans to aid in their recovery. Other counties include Lewis, Essex, Clinton, Franklin, Hamilton, Jefferson, Oswego, St. Lawrence, Warren and Washington Counties.

“My administration has worked diligently to provide resources to areas affected by the July 10 severe weather, and thanks to our federal partners, small businesses can now apply for assistance to rebuild and recover,” Governor Hochul said in a statement. “Severe weather has become all too common in our state, but we maintain a steadfast commitment to supporting the businesses and communities that make New York special.”

According to the SDA, homeowners could be lent up to $500,000 to repair their primary residence. Renters and their landlords will be eligible for up to $100,000 to repair or replace damaged or destroyed property.

Affected business owners can apply for up to $2 million for the replacement of real property, inventories, machinery, equipment and other losses. They — along with non-profit organizations — may also apply for an Economic Injury Disaster Loan of up to $2 million to provide capital until normal operations can resume.

“In July, severe weather caused significant damage to homes and businesses across Central New York and the North Country, so I’m grateful to see impacted residents and businesses will now be offered the federal assistance they need to recover. Making these disaster loans accessible is a critical next step for those impacted to rebuild and regain their livelihoods. I thank the SBA for offering this critical federal assistance and I will continue to fight to ensure all New Yorkers have every available federal resource to rebuild following severe weather events.”

Homeowners and small business owners who wish to apply for the emergency loans can do so at the link here. If you require more information about the loans, you are encouraged to contact the SBA at 1-800-659-2955 or email disastercustomerservice@sba.gov. According to the SBA, locations for in-person assistance and applications will be announced soon.

The filing deadline for applications for property damage is Friday, November 8. The deadline for business owners to file for economic injury applications is Thursday, June 5, 2025.
