Update (4:45 p.m.): Binghamton Police have confirmed that the driver of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle has passed away due to injuries suffered at the scene.

Police say the 68-year-old man from Gouverneur, NY, whose identity remains anonymous, had a trailer attached to the back of his motorcycle when it hit the rear end of an SUV at a red light near the intersection.

All traffic lanes have been reopened, per BPD.

BINGHAMTON, NY (WIVT/WBGH) — Multiple lanes of traffic are closed off following an accident in Binghamton that resulted in “life-threatening injuries” for one, police say.

According to Binghamton Police, officers were dispatched to the Brandywine Highway at the Frederick Street intersection around noon on Thursday, Sept. 12 for a reported vehicle accident. Upon arrival, officers quickly called medics for assistance when they found the operator of the motorcycle had severe life-threatening injuries and needed treatment immediately.

At the time of reporting, the scene at the intersection is under the traffic control of BPD with the northbound lane being completely shut down and the southbound being restricted to one lane. An active investigation is taking place at the scene.

A News 34 reporter at the scene confirmed traffic is extremely backed up due to the lane closures. Be advised if you are travelling in that area.

There's always accidents there. Most of the time when the light is yellow still on one side, the other side turns green and it has caused many accidents.
