BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A large and fitting tribute to Binghamton’s most famous writer was unveiled this weekend inside his favorite childhood park.

A 6-foot-tall bronze statue of Rod Serling, creator of the classic television series The Twilight Zone, has been erected on a hill overlooking Recreation Park on the city’s Westside.

The larger-than-life Serling is seen in front of a Door to Imagination that is slightly ajar. The door is inscribed with the words “You unlock this door with the key of imagination.”

The concrete pedestal is inscribed with a famous Serling quote: “Everyone has to have a hometown, Binghamton’s mine.”
