WHITNEY POINT, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – When playing high school sports, one of your main goals is to win. Well, imagine winning again, and again, and again, and holding a win streak that’s surpassed 50. Well, if you haven’t heard of them yet, a team that’s already done that is the Whitney Point Eagles.

62 games unbeaten. 3 consecutive state championships. The girls of Whitney Point Field Hockey have been dominating for years. There’s more to the game than winning, but there’s nothing wrong with wanting to be the best.

“We feel that we have to hold ourselves to that expectation,” said Captain Taryn Hitt, “and that’s why we, well, part of the reason why we push so hard at practice. So that we can accomplish that.”

When you’re on a streak like the Eagles are, some say there can be some pressure that comes along with it. When you realize that improving and having fun is the main goal behind high school athletics, you don’t feel that pressure as much.

“Whitney Point is held to a high standard for field hockey,” said Junior Genevieve Huston. “So like, yes, I feel like we do need to win, but if we are successful without winning, that’s what matters to me.”

When coaching a team with such success, helping them realize their potential, and even surpass it, is beneficial to the athletes to help them keep improving.

“I always try to develop the players to reach their potential or at least try to get to where they think they can go. As soon as they get to where they’re comfortable, I try to push them outside that comfort zone, just to see what we can get out of them and let them know that there’s more potential that I see in them,” said Head Coach Nicole Huston.

As the team remains successful, they’ll continue on the path toward their 4th chip in 4 years.

The team will be tested this Friday and Saturday as they compete in the Max Field Hockey National High School Invitational, which invites the best teams from all across the country to compete. 20 of the nation’s Preseason Top 25 ranked teams are competing in the event.

The Eagles will have two matchups. Their first will be on Friday at 3 against Mount Saint Joseph Academy, who Max Field Hockey has ranked 19th in the Pennsylvania Preseason Top 20. Saturday at 1 they fact Moorestown High School out of New Jersey. The Quakers are ranked 15th in their state’s respective Preseason Top 20.
