Sportsmen’s Association holding open house Saturday

BROOME COUNTY, NY (WIVT/WBGH) – If you’ve been looking for a place to practice your aim, there’s an open house this weekend at a local shooting range.

The Broome County Sportsmen’s Association is a member only club, but it’s opening its doors to the community this Saturday from 10 to 3.

The club has different ranges for different styles of weapons, including a rifle range, two pistol ranges, an indoor range accessible 24/7 and an air rifle and archery range.

You must own your own gun to shoot at the facility.

The club offers gun training courses, and the basics of shooting targets.

President Jeff Culver says just last week, the club’s licensed instructors taught 32 students in its hunter training course.

“There’s a danger when somebody gets like a handgun permit or gets their first gun that they’re going to be unsafe, and we offer the ability for that person to learn effectively and safely how to use it, so they’re not a danger to themselves and others,” says Culver.

The club sits on 130 acres.

At this Saturday’s open house, you can tour the different shooting ranges, talk with members, and get some food, like burgers and spiedies.
