JOHNSON CITY, NY (WIVT/WBGH) – You can get your steps in, walking around the Oakdale Commons, while supporting the fight against food insecurity.

CHOW is hosting its 42nd annual CHOW Hunger Walk this Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. throughout the Oakdale Commons.

There will be different activities spread out around the building.

Including balloon animals, face painting, feats of strength, jugglers, karate demos and more. Plus, live music, singers, and raffles.

The event is free to attend, just park anywhere at the Commons and make your way to center court.

The Director of CHOW, Les Aylesworth, says walking together in solidarity, shows there is strength in numbers.

“And then at approximately one o’clock, we will all join together for a walk throughout the entire mall to raise awareness. Last year, we had a great group of people, and it would be great to have another huge group of people. Just to show to the community that we stand together in this fight against hunger,” says Aylesworth.

Aylesworth says for every dollar donated to CHOW, it can provide five meals to a person or a family.

He says recent data from the New York State Department of Health says one in four adults in Broome County have been food insecure in the past year.
