BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – The Binghamton City School District is on a two-hour delay due to another social media threat.

All Binghamton schools, including programs located at East Learning Center, will delay opening on Monday. Under this schedule, Binghamton elementary schools will begin at 9:50 a.m., Binghamton High School will begin at 10 a.m., and Binghamton middle schools will begin at 10:25 a.m. There will be no morning pre-K. Breakfast will still be served. Additionally, there will be an increased police presence throughout the district during the day.

On Saturday, the Binghamton Police Department notified the district that a specific threat of violence had been made on social media for early Monday morning. The threat targeted all district buildings. Police immediately began an investigation into the threat. According to the district, police are pursuing a lead but at this time, have not concluded the investigation.

Binghamton High School was recently the target of social media threats on September 16. The school delayed opening out of what the district calls “an abundance of caution”.

Police: No threat of violence to Binghamton High School

According to BHS students, the following message has been circulating on social media since Sunday, Sept. 15:

“Better tell y’all parents to post this on social media unless they want to be missing at child. We will be there at 10:45 (a.m.).”

An investigation into the incident was conducted by the Binghamton Police Department. According to BPD, there was no evidence of the threat of violence against the high school. BPD was able to identify the person who sent out the post, which was determined to be a student who was issuing a warning to other students of the original post and claimed they had knowledge of the events that were supposed to take place. BPD deemed the rumor as false.

These so-called jerks should be suspended for the remaining school year and fined $5,000! Maybe they might think twice!
