(WIVT/WBGH) – A Grammy-award winning band is reclaiming the image of American Roots music by weaving a diverse sound through traditional tunes.

The American Patchwork Quartet is coming to the Schorr Family Firehouse Stage in Johnson City on Saturday.

The group of four plays classic bluegrass and folk songs with a twist, incorporating their diverse backgrounds and American experience.

Guitarist Clay Ross says music tells the story of humanity.

He says America is evolving, and the band’s mission is to give a voice to immigrants and bring the songs they play into contemporary culture.

“Those influences that have shaped the style we that we use to play this music come from Africa, come from indigenous cultures in the U.S., come from Spanish influence, come from this melting pot of American culture. We’re just kind of taking that a step further to say even contemporary immigrants like Falu who maybe weren’t apart of this original conversation, they have something very interesting to offer to the ongoing conversation of American identity,” said Ross.

The performance takes place at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $27, $25 for seniors and students.
