OWEGO, N.Y. (WIIVT/WBGH) – An Owego Diner is celebrating 100 years of friends and food.

The Harris Diner held its centennial celebration yesterday.

Owner Sam Harris and his staff welcomed new and old patrons to dine as if it were the 1950’s again.

Their special Centennial Menu served things such as hot coffee for 10 cents, homemade signature pie for 15 cents, and fried eggs and toast for 45 cents.

The Harris Diner was formerly owned and operated by Sam’s parents. He has been working there for more than 50 years, calling his customers his friends and family.

Harris says the diner means a lot to him. And he says Owego is the greatest place on Earth.

“It’s great. It’s been great. It’s meant a lot to me, me and my family, my brother Ronnie, and all of the people who stop here to at and see us. I’m really happy and God bless everybody,” said Harris.

Harris says he plans on keeping the diner around for a very long time.

The Harris Diner is located at 79 North Avenue in Owego. It’s open Monday through Friday 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday 7 to noon, and closed on Sunday.
