BINGHAMTON, NY (WIVT/WBGH) – The Rumble Ponies auctioned off special game-worn jerseys and raised money so those facing food insecurity have access to fresh dairy products.

Earlier this year, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies worse their Condores de Binghamton jerseys for three games, as part of Minor League Baseball’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Through the auction, the team raised $2500 for the Fill a Glass with Hope campaign.

The initiative is an effort between the American Dairy Association North East to provide fresh milk to those in need through a network of local food banks.

The $2500 went to the Salvation Army on Washington Street in Binghamton to buy dairy products.

Corps Officer of the Binghamton Salvation Army, Joseph Hansen says, “Unfortunately, our clients don’t get a lot of it and it’s not very available for us, so this donation will help us buy a lot of it. It’s probably only about ten percent of what we’re able to give out for or clients. So, it’s a very important donation to be able to provide that.”

The Rumble Ponies, including Rowdy and Ruby, visited the Salvation Army earlier this week to present the check.

Condores de Binghamton is named after the condor, which is a bird that lives in the Andes Mountains.

And the colors of the uniforms honor the flags of Venezuela, Colombia, and Ecuador.
