BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Volunteers Improving Neighborhood Environments, or VINES, will soon host the grand opening of its new sustainable office space.

The new VINES new office building, located at 157 Susquehanna Street in Binghamton, will open on Monday.

The 4,000 square foot building was constructed with sustainability in mind and features green technologies. It is the first Net Zero Energy building in Binghamton. It is also the first commercial straw bale building in the North East.

The project is being made possible through grants and contributions from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, New York Empire State Development, Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo, NYS Assembly grant, the City of Binghamton, Green Mountain Energy Sun Club, the Stewart W. and Willma C. Hoyt Foundation, and Visions Federal Credit Union.

VINES is continuing to seek donations to support the project. Donations can be made on vinesgardens.org or by mail to VINES PO Box 3104, Binghamton, NY 13902.

VINES is a non-profit organization created to sustain community gardens and other food access programs in the Greater Binghamton area.
