BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A state senator honored four local educators for their commitment to volunteerism and their lasting contributions to their communities.

State Senator Lea Webb presented four people with the New York State Senate Commendation Award.

The award celebrates leadership and dedication in academia and community development.

The four recipients were Sean Eversley Bradwell with the Ithaca City School District, David Hawley from Binghamton, Peter Stewart a former principal at Horace Mann, and Dick Testa, the president of the Union Endicott Board of Education.

Bradwell has been an educator in the Southern Tier for nearly 30 years.

“As we say, teaching is not a job it’s a calling, we do not do this work to be recognized or as one of the other recipients said to be awarded with any awards, so it’s just a great honor to be recognized and have my family join me today,” said Bradwell.

The award ceremony took place in Webb’s Office inside the state office building.

The awards are made of glass and feature a picture of New York State, with the names of all four recipients. They were also given a commemorative pin.
