BINGHAMTON, NY (WIVT/WBGH) – Our local opera is celebrating its 75 birthday this year, and its present to itself, is a long-awaited upgrade to its roof.

Tri Cities Opera on Clinton Street in Binghamton announced the lineup of performances for its 75th season, and that the historic building is getting a roof replacement.

The opera says it will host a birthday bash celebration on October 19th at 7 p.m.

You’ll be able to get some swing dance lessons courtesy of the Southern Tier Swing Dance Society.

The General Director, John Rozzoni, says the opera has been raising funds to replace the roof for the past decade.

“It was supposed to have started already but Binghamton, weather, it happens sometimes. But we’re so excited to get started. And this investment will really protect and sustain the next 75 years of Tri-Cities Opera,” says Rozzoni.

TCO kicks off its season next month with ‘All is Calm, The Christmas Truce of 1914.

Then in March, they’re putting on Grand Night for Singing.

And the last performance of the season in April is Verdi’s Rigoletto.
