ENDICOTT, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – The Endicott Police Department discussed village issues with the community over a cup of coffee yesterday.

Officers participated in National Coffee With A Cop Day at Queen City Diner on Washington Avenue. Community members were invited to share a cup of coffee or breakfast with police to discuss their concerns and ask questions.

Police Chief Pat Garey says the event draws in people who may be uncomfortable coming to the station to discuss their problems.

Garey has been the police chief for 8 years and has spent 35 years in law enforcement total. He says people may be afraid to call over minor issues but that’s what officers are there for.

“It’s a great way for us to number one build community relations, get to know the people we serve, but also it’s a great way for us to just kind of learn about and take care of the little problems so they don’t become big ones,” said Garey.

Garey says the officers also got a lot of thank yous from residents.

Garey says the department chose Queen City Diner for the event because it offered community members a way to check out construction on The Avenue as it nears completion.

To contact Endicott Police for non-emergency issues, call (607)785-3341.

I think that is a wonderful idea as long as it stays at a friendly cup of coffee.
