BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A man and a woman were taken into custody on Monday after allegedly stealing a vehicle and fleeing from police on foot.

On September 30, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Broome County Sheriff’s Office
Road Patrol observed a 2010 Toyota Corrolla that had been reported missing earlier that
morning by a Town of Fenton resident.

The vehicle contained a male driver, later identified as Rodney McCormick,20, and a female passenger, later identified as Hailey Blank, 21. The vehicle had pulled into a driveway on
Bevier Street in the City of Binghamton when responding officers pulled in behind it and
activated their emergency lights. The vehicle then accelerated into the yard and drove through a fence of a residence on State Street in an attempt to flee.

Patrols began circling the area as a 911 call came in from Chenango Street, reporting that the
vehicle had struck a building before coming to a stop. The occupants then fled on foot.

As BCSO patrols and City of Binghamton Police continued searching the area, Broome County Dispatch received 911 calls from several other community members, detailing the whereabouts of the fleeing suspects.

Blank was located on Cary Street and arrested. She was found to have several glass smoking pipes and a plastic container containing a white crystal-like substance that later tested positive for methamphetamine.

Bystanders informed police that they had observed the McCormick running across Chenango Street before circling back along the bank of the Chenango River. Patrols located and successfully arrested McCormick without further incident.

Following the investigation, McCormick and Blank were charged with the following:

    McCormick was charged with:

    • Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree, a Class E felony
    • Two counts of Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree, Class A Misdemeanors
    • Obstruction of Governmental Administration in the Second Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor
    • Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor
    • Several Traffic Violations

    Blank was charged with:

    • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor
    • Obstruction of Governmental Administration in the Second Degree

McCormick and Blank were later turned over the Binghamton Police to answer for multiple warrants and charges related to the property damage that occurred during the incident.

Both suspects have been remanded to the Broome County Jail.
