ROME, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — Two people from Utica are facing drug charges in Rome after being arrested in a month-long investigation on Tuesday, October 8.

Rome Police were called to the 100 block of River Street at approximately 3:45 pm on Tuesday, September 3, responding to a report of trespassing. Officers spoke with the person who filed the report, who claimed they had observed two people leaving an unoccupied residence — later identified as 28-year-old Destiny Morey and 37-year-old James Bailey, both of Utica.

Police say Morey and Bailey allegedly entered a vehicle and began to leave the area before they were located. During their identification, police found that both of them had active warrants out of the city of Utica. They arrested both Morey and Bailey on their warrants and a search of the vehicle found drug paraphernalia and a suspected narcotic.

Morey and Bailey were transferred to the Utica Police Department for their warrants.

Field tests done on the suspected narcotic by Rome Police tested positive for fentanyl. Lab results confirmed those results on Thursday, September 26. Police say that the pair were carrying just under five grams of fentanyl.

On Tuesday, October 8, Morey and Bailey were transferred to the Rome Police Department from the Oneida County Jail for processing. Both are being charged with fourth-degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, a Class C Felony.

Morey and Bailey were arraigned at the Rome Police Department and were released back into the custody of the Oneida County Jail.
