BINGHAMTON, NY (WIVT/WBGH) – We’re only a few weeks away from seeing magical, moving pictures along the Binghamton skyline.

The LUMA Projection Arts Festival is coming to Downtown Binghamton on September 6th and 7th, with more this year than ever before.

The free festival held a news conference today, to get a sneak preview of what to expect.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of LUMA, and some fan favorite artists will be returning, including Glitch from Belgium, MaxIn10sity from Budapest, Mindscape Studio from Romania, and Romera from Spain.

Co-Founder of the festival, Joshua Bernard, says each artist is preparing a brand new feature show, plus there will be a new lineup of smaller displays.

“So, we have a new section this year called LUMA Small Works. There’s going to be six of those scattered throughout the festival. So, as you walk from large feature to large feature, you’ll see all the nooks and crannies are going to be filled with smaller features. Some, more experimental stuff sometimes, something a little bit different, something off the beaten path, something new for us. So, we’re really excited about LUMA Small Works,” says Bernard.

Also returning to LUMA this year is the annual community mural, dedicated to Peg Johnston.

Local artists can have their work scanned and projected onto a building’s facade during the festival.

You can find a digital template and instructions online at LUMAFestival.com.

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar says its events like LUMA that put Broome County’s name on the map as a destination.

“There’s a lot of reasons why people come to a community, to get a job. But, when you ask them they always say is, we just want things to do. We want cool things to do, and this is a really cool thing that happens that doesn’t happen in any other community across the United States,” says Garnar.

LUMA is currently raising funds for this year’s festival, with a goal of reaching $40,000.

The event takes place on September 6th and 7th from 8:30 p.m. to 12:15 a.m.
