CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - Amtrak continues to play a significant role in Virginia's transportation network, with up to 37 trains operating daily across various routes by the end of fiscal year 2023.

According to Amtrak, these routes include long-distance services like the Auto Train, Cardinal, Crescent, Palmetto, Silver Meteor, and Silver Star, as well as state-supported routes such as the Carolinian and the Northeast Regional.

According to Amtrak, Amtrak served 23 stations across Virginia during this period, with Alexandria leading in ridership at 308,013 passengers.

Richmond's Staples Mill Road station followed closely with 403,892 passengers, while Norfolk saw 230,114 riders. However, Clifton Forge, located in the western part of the state, had the lowest ridership, with only 1,572 passengers, according to Amtrak.

Overall, Virginia’s Amtrak stations collectively handled 2,194,700 passengers during FY 2023, highlighting the continued importance of rail travel in the state, even as ridership varies significantly between different regions and stations.
