The Least Used Amtrak Station in Florida as of 2023

    2024-08-22

SANFORD, FL - Amtrak's presence in Florida remains a vital part of the state's transportation network, with six trains operating daily across several long-distance routes.

At the end of Fiscal Year 2023, Amtrak served numerous cities in Florida, connecting residents and tourists alike to destinations across the East Coast.

According to Amtrak, among the busiest stations was Orlando, with an impressive ridership of 135,614 passengers. This central hub continues to be a popular stop, reflecting Orlando’s status as a major destination for both business and leisure travelers.

In stark contrast, Okeechobee was the least used station in Florida, with only 4,026 passengers recorded. Despite its low ridership, Okeechobee remains a crucial part of Amtrak's network, offering service on the Silver Star route, which connects travelers from New York to Miami, according to Amtrak.

Amtrak's total station usage in Florida for FY 2023 was 951,043, a testament to the enduring importance of rail travel in the Sunshine State, according to Amtrak.

However, the disparity in station usage highlights the varying demand for services in different regions of Florida. As Amtrak continues to evolve its offerings, stations like Okeechobee may see changes aimed at boosting ridership in the future.
