FULTON, KY - Amtrak's ridership in Kentucky for the fiscal year 2023 saw service to four stations across the state, highlighting the modest but vital role train travel plays in the region.

The state is served by two long-distance routes: the Cardinal, which operates three times a week between New York and Chicago, and the City of New Orleans, running daily between Chicago and New Orleans.

According to Amtrak, the station in Fulton recorded the highest ridership in Kentucky, with 4,214 passengers boarding or alighting from Amtrak trains.

According to Amtrak, Ashland followed with 1,579 passengers, and Maysville saw 2,111 travelers. However, the least used station in the state was South Shore-South Portsmouth, with only 870 passengers for the entire year.

Despite its lower usage, South Shore-South Portsmouth remains an essential link for local residents, connecting them to larger cities along the Cardinal route, according to Amtrak.

Overall, Kentucky's total Amtrak ridership was 8,774, underscoring the importance of continued investment in rail infrastructure to serve the state’s transportation needs.
