The Least Used Amtrak Station in West Virginia as of 2023

    2024-08-23

MARTINSBURG, WV - Amtrak's service in West Virginia remains a crucial transportation option, with up to three trains operating daily across the state.

According to Amtrak data from Fiscal Year 2023, the total ridership at West Virginia's Amtrak stations reached 31,943, highlighting the ongoing demand for rail travel in the region.

According to Amtrak, the Capitol Limited and Cardinal routes serve West Virginia, connecting cities like Charleston, Huntington, and Harpers Ferry to major hubs such as Chicago, Washington, D.C., and New York.

Among the stations, Martinsburg recorded the highest ridership with 6,948 passengers, followed closely by Charleston with 6,352 passengers. Harpers Ferry also saw substantial use, with 6,032 riders.

However, the Montgomery station had the lowest ridership, with just 266 passengers in FY 2023. Despite its lower usage, Montgomery remains a vital link in the state's rail network, providing essential connectivity for the local community, according to Amtrak.

Amtrak continues to work with host railroads to improve on-time performance and enhance the passenger experience across its routes in West Virginia and beyond.

I forgot to mention Amtrak's Auto-train. A great way to travel from Metro Washington, DC, to central Florida. Take your vehicle with you at a very reasonable price and avoid traveling Interstate 95.
