MARTINSBURG, WV - Beneficiaries of Social Security retirement, disability, and survivors benefits typically receive their payments on the second, third, or fourth Wednesdays of each month, depending on their birth dates.

According to the Social Security Administration, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments, however, are usually distributed on the first of the month. When the first falls on a federal holiday or weekend, SSI payments are made on the previous business day.

According to the Social Security Administration, for October, SSI beneficiaries will receive their payments on September 29 because October 1 falls on a Sunday. They already received a payment on September 1, meaning two payments were made this month.

The next SSI payment will be on November 1, according to the 2023 Social Security calendar. This pattern also occurred in March and June, and will happen again in December, resulting in no SSI payments in January 2024.

Beneficiaries who receive both Social Security and SSI, as well as those who claimed benefits before May 1997, generally receive their Social Security payment on the third of the month and their SSI on the first. In October, these payments will be distributed on October 3, according to the Social Security Administration.

If a payment is missed, beneficiaries are advised to wait three business days before contacting the Social Security Administration. Payment dates can be confirmed through the 2023 calendar or by checking the “Benefits and Payments” section on the Social Security online account.

For assistance, call 1-800-772-1213 between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. on weekdays, with shorter wait times during the first two hours of the workday or between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday to Friday.
