Power Bill Assistance Available for Kentucky Residents

MOREHEAD, KY - Kentucky’s Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides crucial support to approximately 150,000 families each winter, helping them manage home heating bills during the cold months.

According to the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, funded by the federal government, LIHEAP is administered by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services and managed locally by Community Action Agencies across the state.

The program has two key components: Subsidy and Crisis. The Subsidy component runs from November to December, offering assistance to households at or below 130% of the federal poverty level, according to the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services.

Eligible applicants must also meet liquid resource guidelines, with allowances for medical or catastrophic expenses.

The Crisis component operates from January to March, helping households in urgent need, such as those with utility shut-off notices or a limited supply of heating fuel.

During summers, when additional funding is available, LIHEAP provides cooling assistance and may offer air conditioners to households with vulnerable members, such as seniors, young children, or those with medical conditions, according to the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services.
