The Least Used Amtrak Station In Rhode Island As Of 2023

KINGSTON, RI - Amtrak saw significant ridership in Rhode Island during fiscal year 2023, with over 939,000 passengers using the service across the state.

According to Amtrak, Amtrak operates more than 36 trains per day in Rhode Island, primarily on the busy Northeast Corridor, which connects major cities like Washington, New York, and Boston.

Two key routes, Acela and Northeast Regional, serve the state, providing high-speed and regional train services.

According to Amtrak, Providence Station (PVD) was the busiest in the state, accounting for 709,232 riders, making it a major hub for both commuters and long-distance travelers. Kingston Station (KIN) also saw substantial traffic, with 179,644 passengers using its services.

However, Westerly Station (WLY) was the least used station in Rhode Island, serving 50,453 riders during the year, according to Amtrak.

Despite having lower ridership than Providence or Kingston, Westerly remains an important stop for passengers traveling through southern Rhode Island.

Amtrak continues to face challenges with on-time performance, largely due to its reliance on host railroads, but remains a vital part of Rhode Island's transportation infrastructure.
