The Least Used Amtrak Station In Texas As Of 2023

LONGVIEW, TX - Amtrak served 388,678 passengers across Texas in fiscal year 2023, with trains running on several long-distance and state-supported routes.

According to Amtrak, the Texas Eagle, which connects Chicago to San Antonio, and the Sunset Limited, traveling between Los Angeles and New Orleans, provide critical links across the state. Additionally, the Heartland Flyer connects Fort Worth to Oklahoma City.

Fort Worth (FTW) was the busiest station in Texas, handling 107,566 passengers. Other major hubs included San Antonio (SAS) with 53,039 riders, Dallas (DAL) with 49,196, and Austin (AUS) with 32,831 passengers, according to Amtrak.

However, Del Rio (DRT) was the least used station, serving just 1,817 passengers during the year, according to Amtrak.

Despite its low ridership, Del Rio remains an important stop on the Sunset Limited route, providing access for residents in this remote area of Texas.

While Amtrak ridership continues to grow in major cities, smaller stations like Del Rio offer essential services to rural communities, ensuring connectivity across the state.
