West Virginia Governor Creates Task Force to Handle School Threats

MARTINSBURG, WV - In response to a recent increase in school threats across the state, Governor Jim Justice has directed the West Virginia Department of Homeland Security to create a comprehensive School Safety Task Force.

This new task force is designed to address and mitigate threats, ensuring a coordinated response to protect students and educational institutions.

According to a press release from Governor Jim Justice, the task force, composed of several agencies including the West Virginia Fusion Center, State Police, Safe Schools Unit, and federal law enforcement partners, will analyze threats by county and educational institution.

It will also work closely with county prosecutors to track arrests and juvenile petitions related to school threats. This data will help streamline legal processes and enhance the state's response, according to the press release.

A new communication hub will be established to ensure real-time coordination among task force partners during critical incidents. Gov. Justice emphasized his commitment to school safety, stating that schools must remain safe havens for students and staff, according to the press release.

Additionally, West Virginians are encouraged to report threats through the "See Something, Send Something" app, ensuring community involvement in safeguarding schools.
